I really wanted to like it but I felt it was boring! I struggled with the first and I noticed I enjoyed the story more when I read it than when I listened. But after listening to 12 hours at work I felt like nothing had even really happened throughout the book and I had no desire to pick it up again once I put it down.

Is it possible that book 2 is better than book 1? In my opinion V. E. Schwab knocked it out of the park with this sequel. A Gathering of Shadows picks up 4 months after the events of the first book. While I struggled with the beginning of A Darker Shade of Magic, A Gathering of Shadows picks up with excitement from the beginning. I LOVE Lila and love the pirate aspect of this one. The competition was great, and the new added characters were a great addition to the main cast (looking at you Alucard Emery) I don't know why I sat on this series for so long. I'm loving it and cannot wait for book 3.

While I rated this book five stars last time I read it, I enjoyed it even more this time around. I think the audiobooks are really enhancing my reading experience for this series. I love Lila so much. Her determination throughout the Element Games was incredible. Kell is my favorite sad boy. Alucard is fantastic and I loved how much he pushed Lila. Rhy is hilarious and I love his charisma. I forgot how much of a cliffhanger this one ends on!!!
