great concept, poorly executed. all the characters were "emotionless", for one reason or another, except sammy, who either cried or yelled her way through the book. throwaways like the main character not being able to spell or do math because he was too cool for school could have been inserted organically and humourously, instead of ham-handedly pushed into the narrative. really that's my main issue. everything that could have been great: western cliches, mad science, fighting yourself...everything was just shoehorned in and beaten to death. this book was on my list for a good while, and I found myself speeding through it once I realized it wasn't going to get better.
