For me, this is the most difficult and painful book in the series. Harry and his friends are angry and miserable in much of the book, and the scene in the chapter Beyond the Veil is shattering. Excellent book, hard to read.

In this installation the war continues to rage on between Voldemort and the Order through means of subterfuge and shadows. This is because, despite Voldemort officially coming back from defeat, the Wizarding World continues to discredit and refuse to believe Harry and Dumbledore's warnings. However as mysterious visions continue to plague Harry, and the Order refuse to include him in their innermost folds, Harry develops a burning rage at the world with little motivation to curb it, spelling disaster for the year to come. Though this series continues to get gradually darker as our main characters grow up and the war continues to rage, it's still great to see how well developed Rowling created these characters, from the uncontrolled anger that Harry feels in an unfair world to the guilt Dumbledore confesses from his past decisions. It gave life to these characters and depth to their experiences, something I didn't catch as a kid but now appreciate as an adult who has also grown as a person and as a reader.
