This is not tagged as romance but the romance part of the plot is very prevalent. Even more than the ghost bride part of the stories at some times. So if you are not interested in romance be warned.

This is an intriguing book. Definitely more fantasy than literary fiction, but that suited me just fine. I'm a sucker for mythology and folklore and this book has it in spades. Chinese and Malay mythos intertwine in a supernatural story filled with mystery, adventure and romance. What's not to love about that?

Very different than what I usually read but fascinating in the end. The many twists and turns of the story meant I was never quite sure what would happen next as Li Lan delves deeper and deeper into the spirit world in an effort to escape from a ghost marriage. I liked the development as the heroine a lot; I worried she would not find her backbone or fight but in the end, she was the sort of girl who surprised you.

Personaggi: schifo, banali, protagonista rammollita e cretina. Love interest e triangolo amoroso da far venire la nausea.
Stile di scrittura vuoto, non mi coinvolgeva e mi faceva sentire estranea alla scena. Se un libro non riesce a farmi entrare fra le sue pagine, è un NO!
Ad un certo punto volevo solo FINIRE QUESTO CAZZO DI LIBRO. Mi sono messa a saltare parti, COSA CHE NON FACCIO MAI!
Non immaginavo che sarebbe stato così disastroso... LA MIA SOLITA FORTUNA!

The story line is really good but I don't think I like the direction Lilan's character is developed. It somehow felt like a fantasy YA with Lilan so young and sometimes stupid. I liked substance of the story though.
