Being that this was my first proper Fear Street read, I was pleasantly surprised. This was honestly pretty fun, and very quick, I basically flew through it, and I was a little shocked when the killer was revealed. I was definitely inspired to pick up some books from this series after my watch of the Netflix Fear Street trilogy, and I'm happy I did, can't wait to pick up another one.

Sigh, from what I've learned from this Cramathon.. I don't love R.L. Stine's Fear Street books as much as I used to. It's nostalgic for sure, but the writing is very notably juvenile for my taste (however, I find that this doesn't apply to the Fear Street Saga [The Betrayal, the secret, and.. I forgot the 3rd one and then the other bind-up of the trilogy following called "Cursed"]). This book was enjoyable because it didn't feel as "Oh my God! I cannot believe that happened!" (meaning the main narrator didn't sound as naive) as the other ones I've read for this cramathon. The ending also wasn't as predictable as I thought it was going to be. This book really has the bare bones for a really cool story, but I just wish it was a smidge more "mature". I really love how fast it is to get through the Fear Street books though, I will still keep reading and searching for the ones that don't have my cynical self rolling my eyes and how "shocked" the main character is that something ELSE bad happened.

Loved it just like all the other Fear Street books!!! Once I start reading them I can't stop. Even though most of them have similar storyline, I can't seem to get bored of them.

Fear Street # 91

Gretchen Davies and her friends have prepared the ULTIMATE surprise birthday party for Cindy. They're going to break into her house, abduct her with perhaps a burlap sack over her head, and then drive over to Fear Lake with her presumably sobbing in the trunk of someone's car. With friends like these....

Shockingly, this plan goes pretty well. That is, until Patrick Munson flashes a gun and freaks the other kidnappers out, spoiling the game, and is forced to explain why he's pointing a gun at Cindy's head. Apparently there's a killer on the loose who has already killed some teens. The news is being kept quiet to prevent panic, but Patrick's dad is a cop in Waynesbridge so he has good intel. And access to guns! None of this explains why the gun was pointed at Cindy, but when a killer is on the loose is not the time to talk about gun control. The group decide that too much work has been put into the party to give up now. Besides, the killer couldn't possibly linger in Shadyside, and if he did, would he choose to hide on Fear Island?

This may turn out to be a memorable party for all the wrong reasons.

I couldn't get into the terrible relationship dynamics of this one. There's often very little reason to root for Stine's protagonists, but everyone was pretty unlikable here. It made me wish the killer would get a move on already. This was merely OK.

Note: The previous book I read and reviewed is 'House of a Thousand Screams'
