This author has a very specific sort of YA/NA angst-o-rama style that sometimes works for me and sometimes leaves me feeling overwhelmed and/or confused. This time it mostly worked, but of course the main character has endured a lot of trauma and abandonment, and then a bit more trauma for good measure. (I don't have a hard and fast rule about how much trauma is too much, it's more a 'I know it when I read it' sense--this came close, but didn't seem overly gratuitous to me.)
