*3/5*

This was a a cute roadtrip historical romance that could have been a smidgen shorter.

Asher and Winn are cute together and I love how he adores her. But Winn's constant inner goings-on about her weight did start to feel a little much after a while (I wish the cover model had a body type to match Winn, a missed opportunity there..)

The book that Winn and her friends are writing is.. odd? But I love how they end up getting some of the chapters. We will see how it continues with each installment of the series

The insta-love is here too my friends. They fall fast for each other.

3.5 stars.

This book was just okay. Winnifred cared wayyyy too much about her weight and how she looked and other people’s opinions about her. It’s okay to have insecurities but I want my heroine to be strong and not be easily persuaded by others.

Then there’s Asher Holt (our hero) who is a Viscount and heir to a Marquess. But Asher’s father treats his son so bad (he’s a gambler and even hire criminals to capture his son) it’s almost unbelievable. The third act break-up was irritating and I honestly think that if Winnifred had let Asher explained his situation, the story could have ended much quicker.

Lord Holt Takes a Bride is the first book in the new series Mating Habits of a Scoundrel. This book was a riot! If you are looking for something full of humor to read, this is the book for you! Stranded by the side of the road with your kidnapper, wedding gown hitches, stolen dress…I laughed all the way to the end and still chuckle when I think about this book. Three debutantes, who would rather be spinsters, are on the hunt for husbands and realize they need a book to guide them on how to recognize when a man is looking for a wife or if he’s a scoundrel wanting to avoid marriage. Realizing there isn’t such a book, they take it upon themselves to make a study of men and write one. But first they need to have research material…
Heiress Winnifred “Winnie” Humphries doesn’t like the man her father has chosen for her to marry. She wants to be married for love not for her money. She never imagined the consequences of her friends kidnapping a scoundrel for their research would have on her life.
Lord Asher Holt had a plan to leave London and escape his father’s schemes and debt, but when he gets kidnapped and his money disappeared, he wants revenge. He overheard the women making plans for Winnie to run away from her wedding while he was tied up and he has come up with the perfect solution or so he thought.
Ash’s simple plans for kidnapping Winnie all fall apart when his father’s henchmen start to follow them. Their simple trip leads them on an adventure of a lifetime. As they continue to dodge the men and travel to Winnie’s aunt, Ash and Winnie fall in love. Ash knows his father will never stop his schemes involving Ash and so he needs to make his own fortune somehow. At the end of their journey when the truths come out, can Winnie believe that Ash loves her and not her money?
This was such an entertaining book and I loved it. I loved the characters and the mischievous plans they made. The plot was well developed and sent Ash and Winnie on a wonderful adventure. I can’t wait to read the next book and see what mischief the debutants create with their research.
