This was a breathtaking story with heartbreaking emotional depth and delves into grief so beautifully. I wish I could mesmer myself just so I could read it again for the first time.

Wow, this was a blast! I usually stay away from YA but this book was not too YA for me. It's an amazing read with a really interesting story and a great perspective. I absolutely love the twisting of Arthurian legend, secret societies, and Demon hunting into this wonderful new adventure with some truly unexpected twists and turns.

The mental health / grief representation and the exploration of black history and legacies were so well handled and incorporated into the story.

There are quite a few characters and my tired brain sometimes lost track of who was who and who had done what in previous scenes but I think that's more of a me issue 😅

11/10 would recommend!

Loved this so much. I loved the history and magic system. I loved the depth and sadness. I loved the world building and the characters. I especially loved Bree and I have a crush on Sel. Can’t wait to continue this story.

One of the best books I’ve read in a long time this story absolutely enveloped me. Between the struggles of being black & being a woman is clearly seen throughout the book. The plot twist was absolutely fantastic in my opinion & it was pretty fast paced for me I can’t wait to start the 2nd book!

I’m blown away. Impressive handling of personal grief and healing with therapy, intergenerational trauma, abusive institutional power, racism and misogyny, but also fun and action packed with relatable & cute young love and Arthurian legends

I started this book during a reading slump and I prefer 3rd over 1st person narration so it was hard to get into at first. Once I got about 70-80 pages in though, it really hooked me in.

The fighting/action sequences were very captivating and well written.

The POC representation is very refreshing and relatable. I appreciated that this book showed the different ways racism presents itself as well as how racism can affect someone in ways you wouldn't even think of. It's rare to see racism, slavery, and ancestry talked about in the way this book did. It was comforting in a melancholy sort of way.

This book is about magic, but it's also about colonialism. Neither of these aspects felt overshadowed by the other. There was a perfect blend of both.

The subtle LGBTQIA+ representation was also a nice touch.

This was the book club pick for June, that I originally planned to read in May, didn't have time to read in June, but finally read and finish in August.

Great story. Slow to start since there is a lot to cover but lots of action in between until it gets to the climax and it’s all fast paced after that.

Favorite book I've ever read. Every other book has been ruined because it will never live up to this. I had to take a while after finishing the two books that are currently available to drag myself back to the real world.
