The plot kept me curious as we got deeper and deeper into the story, hitting me with several twists (only 1-2 of which were suspected).
I will absolutely be continuing the series, and looking for more work by Tracy Deonn in the future.

Learning about Patricia’s and Bree’s history and how their family tree was root workers was beyond interesting. Especially in its connection to grief and the way that death really teaches and takes away lot from people. And the getting an understanding of the root work and blood-crafting and how it impacts the Legendborn world was such an interesting part of the book.
I desperately need to know what happened with that baby and or father of that shadowborn child though.
Bree: She was a good introductory starter mc. Especially for young black girls living in the south surrounded by white people constantly. But…
Bad:
Bree: A lot of instances I think Bree needed to connect with other people outside of the Legendborn community. Connect with other people that were black or POC. But she never really did. Not even really hanging out with Alice as much before or after joining the Legendborn and having attitude that constantly gives bad friend.
She also allowed a lot of things to slide. Especially with Tor and Vaughn.
Plot: Learning so much about the Legendborn, the order, the table and the shadowborn felt so info-dumpy that without combing this with the audiobook I wouldn’t have been able to finish this.
Selwyn: his behavior in the beginning was so annoying like I understood but it was getting a bit much especially when it felt like no investigation was truly happening just being aggressive for no reason. Then to find out
But…most of his actions was just giving loser vibes to me that it made it hade for me to feel anything for him except toward the end section.
Alice: was barely in the book to really convey she was Bree’s best friend. How it was written was showing more college friend not childhood to me but as Bree was grieving and was refusing to grieve properly I let it slide how she was treated. But when she came in toward the end section I was a big fan of Alice. #FuckTor
