What an excellent book. Features a strong cast of characters, believable characters, that carry on in spite of their pasts. Pinter is always an enjoyable read and his characters live and breathe off the page. I liked that it showed the flaws in each of these characters but also the love they held for those close to them. Rachel is a brave strong woman who doesn't always get it right but loves her children. My one criticism is at times Rachel is portrayed as a little bit to perfect of a sleuth without any law enforcement background or training. Looking forward to more of these thrillers.

Selected this as my free Amazon Prime book of the month. It was a quick read. I like the idea of the character Rachel Marin, but she - and all the characters, really - are too cliched. Rachel is our female Sherlock Holmes mixed with Lara Croft. Her kids are perfectly-behaved bookworms. The lead detective is damaged but sensitive. His partner is a moody and gritty lesbian. The story was fine, as I don't expect mind-blowing literature from my police procedurals. But there are other authors I prefer more, especially when writing female characters. Would I read the second Rachel Marin book, should there be one? Probably, just to see if the series evolves.

Book Review: Hide Away by Jason Pinter ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I LOVED this book. From the first chapter I knew that Rachel Marin was a badass! She totally caught people by surprise and she is so smart! I only figured out who the killer was right before she did a couple chapters from the end. I am excited this is a series and I have just gotten the 2nd book! Definitely recommend!

Rachel is this wonderful character that has had her life completely turned upside down and inside out. She is so realistic that you can't help but root for her. Rachel's past is haunting not only her present but that of her children. However, moving her family and starting over isn't as easy as it sounds since she can see injustice in her new city.
I loved that Rachel chose not to give up and that she was able to make life changes that are benefitting for her children. You can see the love for her children in most of the things that she does. However, Rachel gets a bit cocky, and that can be dangerous. Rachel sees something that the cops don't at first, and she will figure it out before the detectives or die trying.
This mystery is top-notched and kept me guessing throughout. I couldn't read fast enough to see what had happened in the past and what was unfolding presently. The clues were laid out expertly and kept me on my toes. Well done, Mr. Pinter. I will be looking forward to the next Rachel Marin installment.

Fast moving and author is a good story teller, but I thought the idea of Rachel inserting herself in the middle of a murder investigation without being a police officer or in some other criminal justice field was a bit far fetched.
