I actually LOVED the grunge vibe of this one so much more than the folksy horror of the first one - especially because we see how the world of Faerie “works” in different ways in Ironside. Val reminds me of Vi from Arcane, which means I think she’s queer but what do I know this was the early 2000s and not many fantasy books made their MC’s ~not straight~.

“you carried my heart in your hands tonight," he said. "but i have felt as if you carried it long before that.”
the entire story is creepy, unnerving, dark, and disturbing (my stomach dropped within the first chapter), yet holly still managed to write one of the most romantic lines/scenes in ya history. i liked this better than tithe because the plot is more interesting, but the characters in tithe were way more likable. excited for ironside!

I honestly was really hating this book from the start, but because it's HB, I wanted to read it. By 50%, I was having such a hard time staying connected. The cheating, running away, homelessness, and active drug addiction left a bad taste in my mouth and I could not figure out what this had to do with Tithe. If this was one of the first HB books I had ever read, I probably would have never picked up another one of her books ever again, and that really sucks because her other books are phenomenal and she is one of my favorite authors.
