i never thought i would enjoy fantastic four stories so much but i really like the writing and art for this! keeps the spirit of their beginnings while keeping it relevant for the 2000's

IMHO, Mark Waid & Mike Wieringo's Fantastic Four run doesn't get enough love. People like it, sure, but I don't think they *love* it enough. For my money, it's The Third Great FF Run (first is Lee/Kirby, of course, then Byrne) because it hits EVERYTHING that makes the Fantastic Four work... the perfect mix of high adventure, low comedy, astonishing technology, exotic locales, and of course the family dynamics. Even the slightest of stories (like Reed & Ben on Baxter Building pest control duty) still have everything you want from the FF. Near-perfect comic bookery in the Mighty Marvel Manner.

I enjoyed the comics but I didn't love them. They were good fun, but I didn't find anything in the stories that really stuck with me and made me want to continue on as fast as possible - reason why it took over a week to finish the bundle. However, Doctor Doom appears in the next one and that's really who I'm here for, so I'll at least read the next volume.

They are pretty easy to follow - though Reed's science absolutely flew over my head - and the art is pretty good.
