I loved everything about this story.  Magic, secret societies, spies, forbidden romance. This really did have it all. The ups and downs, the evolution of an idea into a masterpiece. This book hit every note. The characters were wonderful and their development individually and together was nothing short of inspired. The storyline (both the individual for this book and the storyline for the series) progressed at a great speed. Not so fast you miss everything but not so slow and bogged down you get bored. It moved as it needed to letting you get insight into the characters and showing off the mage abilities. An absolutely wonderful story about hope, freedom, and balance that every lover of fantasy should read.

Mage Slave had such potential until an insta-love that emerged after 5 days the two leads being together.

It nearly made me DNF at 60% or so but we muddled through that last 40%.

The world building itself was good.

It was a pleasant read, I liked it but I wasn't wowed by it. However, I have high hopes for his chronicle and can't wait to read the sequel.

I liked the story. Can't think of anything that really bothered me. Except for Miara at the end because she didn't realize it sooner.

“Steal too many trinkets, and they think you can steal a man.”
This is a generous 3 star review. Some moments in the book were less than 3 star worthy. Descriptions were repetitive (ie he's a fool, she's a fool, everyone is foolish). I think the plot had great potential but I didn't love the execution.

Mage Slave is a high fantasy YA story based a mage slave named Miara who is sent to kidnap Prince Avan and return him to her home. Dark magic binds her to this quest so escaping is not an option. After being successful in the kidnapping of the prince she sets out on her journey to take him to her home-- his rival kingdom.

I enjoyed the magic system in this book. It was easy to understand and fun to read about. Miara is a very headstrong character that has morals and knows that what she is doing is wrong, but since the magic binds her she is unable to escape. Avan is also very headstong, but he is also understanding and kind, but fierce as well.

This is a fast paced novel that keeps you entertained from beginning to end. For someone who usually doesn't enjoy high fantasy, I really liked this story and plan to pick up the next novel in this series.

This book was a fun read! Also I really like the magic system- especially Miara creature magic- where she can change into any animal-big or small-, turn others into animals, and even control humans to an extent (at we are creatures after a fashion) like changing her face shape to alter her appearance, or binding people. Cool and unique powers.

Also I like Aven as a character too, he was laid-back, cool as a cucumber, and curious. He was also a bit of fresh air after all of the macho-macho alpha types I've been reading lately. Not to say, even without an understanding of his Air magic, he couldn't kick some butt.

Romance was a little quick and cutesy, but its YA, so I'll give it a pass!
But overall, I'm def looking forward to see where this story goes!
