I have a life goal to publish a book. APE was a very useful overview of what that process involves, and I feel much more prepared than I did before reading. This would be five stars, but much of the very specific technical advice is no longer up to date. That said, I got a good laugh each time Google+ was recommended and praised.

From someone who has yet to self-publish, this book seems to lay out the steps clearly and concisely. Simple, clean prose make it easy to read and the wealth of information and resources is daunting in a good way. I will come back to this for the details when I'm ready to S-P.

I think this is a great starting point for authors who are looking to self-publish. It gives a lot of tips of where to start.

I saw a few reviews that complain that the information is crammed, but it is a reference text, not a step-by-step self-publishing how-to, so I don't see much relevance in their lackluster reviews.

This is a great starting point, especially for authors who are new to the game. As a publisher I think this is a really helpful text for new authors who are beginning their marketing and publishing journey.

This book, though a little outdated, includes great tools and advice for writers looking to kickstart their independent business. Though some of the content didn't apply to me directly, or didn't fit into my business plan, I appreciated the content and believe there's something in it for every author entrepreneur.

A goal at work is to digitize some of the old books written by and about the nuns. This book assumes you're writing your own book, so some of the other stuff had to be googled, but the middle part of the book with ebook file production process and then where/how to upload it is awesome. I feel a bit like no one needs all of this book, but each reader will need a different combination of chapters to get them on track.

One element that the author displays of 5-star+ value is the ability to hype and market his books.

Not that APE is bereft of value -- there is a lot of good stuff in here of interest to anyone desiring to publish a book. It's just that there is a great bit of redundancy and also needless content. And it reads like a string of blog posts which would make a fantastic blog, but in book form, it's just OK.

Definitely a must-read if you’re looking to self-publish. I wish I’d read this before self-published Stranger Things Have Happened. I would totally do it differently. Lots of good ideas I want to put to use going forward.
