Yes.

Madeline at it again with her gut wrenching stories😔 I couldn't put this one down, I was glued to it. It was dark, morbid, and I'm realizing that's my type of shit despite what I believed. It's a little bit more raw than her previous works, so that was jarring at first.

My copy had a little note from Madeline, which just made me love her and this work more.

I still cannot stop thinking about this book help me

I absolutely adored the ending! It reminded me of those dark fairytales (Little Mermaid esque). I think it's a perfect conclusion, and absolutely metal as hell, which is the shit I love.

Powerful story about a stone maiden brought to life by a man. I was unfamiliar with the original story, but so many scenes here struck home: the role playing of Galatea waking from stone, her husband being unnamed here just as she is in the original, the the sexual assault and the desire for Galatea to lie unmoving and be convalescent, the duty a creator owes to his creation, the idea that something once created is yours forever, the idea that a woman is a literal object, the idea that a silent, subdued, still, woman is better except when she is demurely animated, as by blushing. Miller takes this a step up from the misogynistic original.

Jealousy is also brought up. I enjoyed hearing about Galatea and Paphos' adventures in the hills and their learning letters.

A quick little morsel! It goes by so quickly that I feel you need to read it twice to take it in. Once to get to the end and a second time to get beneath the surface.

The afterword is a really important part of the read, as the context helps. If I’d know how helpful it was I would have read it first.
