Did not expect to just be crying this entire book but here we are. Highly recommend the audiobook version narrated by the author—it amplifies and enhances the experiences so much. Stories interwoven with information and heart, with calls to action, calls to reality, calls to dream. I’ll be thinking about these stories and specific passages for time to come.

“You are a part of me I do not yet know.”

Read it for a class I took. While it certainly makes well-needed points, the author’s flashbacks on her life come off as “the story of the wonderful me” written by someone desperate to cast themself as a future leader.

I liked this. It’s super accessible and readable (actually I listened to the audiobook because it’s read by the author) - feels like a very good entry point for liberals to concepts like white supremacy, imperialism, islamophobia, and transformative justice. I have my own baggage around people who are this earnest about things like “revolutionary love”, but once I got past that I think it was a strength of this book.

See No Stranger is an incredibly important and essential book. It has so much to say about compassion for ourselves and for our neighbors, and even more to say about how to see every person as a neighbor. I devoured this in an afternoon and I'll be reading this again soon to take notes as soon as I've digested it for a bit. Highly, highly recommended.

*I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.*

There is a lot of good content in this book and a lot of good wisdom on loving well in our world. I also really appreciate learning more about Sikhism. But, this text is no doubt a memoir in nature and at times, feels like a long narrated resume. That's said though there is a lot to learn from Valarie Kaur.
