wow i have a lot of thoughts. “the jasmine throne” was right up my alley (sapphic fantasy!!) and i really enjoyed it. the characters, world, and religious lore were all extremely well written and thought out.
my favorite thing about “the jasmine throne” was probably priya and malinis relationship (both before and when it was romantic), but i was also very fond with bhumika and rukh. i don’t think there was a character or specific plot point i found boring and i definitely didn’t want to put this book down.
there were a few things that i wasn’t too fond of. though i love priya and malinis relationship, i found it a little bit hard to follow in the first half of the book. i felt like it was moving both too fast in some parts and too slow in others. i had less issues with their dynamic as the book went on so this might just have been a me problem.
other than my very minor issues with priya and malinis relationship i loved this book, and im excited to pick up the sequel when i can get my hands on it!

i have so many complicated thoughts about this book and i don’t really know how to articulate them all, or really any of them. i can’t wait to read the next book in the trilogy.
i’ll come back to this review in a couple of days when i’ve collected my thoughts because i need to process what happened before i can properly write about what i thought. :)

What a wonderful way to start my year. The Jasmine Throne held me tight and threw me into a world of rot, ruin, magic and complication relationships. It dealt with politics in a way that I found easy to follow and it flowed between the different perspectives. Malini and Priya are solid character. Who have their own fears, flaws and goals. ALL of the characters, big or small, are beautifully written. You see different perspectives on the “right” way to gain their freedom. You get family that is thrown apart but finds a way to grow back together and mend what was broken.

This is a 3.75 for me. I liked the story, but sometimes I had trouble getting really immersed.
I did like that both the FMC's had their own motivations and were honest about that. I'm looking forward to book two so that the word can be expanded on.
