This book takes place entirely inside the crumbling mind of a woman isolating herself, daughter, and father in their apartment/home.

Honestly, this book was confusing and I just don’t want to have to try so hard to understand what is going on. Just… WTF did I just read?

what a bleak and sad little book. trías has such gorgeous writing, seeing claras unreliability to understand whats going on around her and impact her deterioration that ultimately ends with her final choices… i almost wish we got to know a bit more about clara and her father before they stayed shut in because of how curious their dynamic was

This book deserves to be read more than once (which I hope to do before I have to return it to the library). Clara’s honesty contrast her unreliable perspective on the events that are unfolding within and outside of her world: her house. Conflating isolation for protection, she brings about the downfall of those she is meant to care about.
