I received a free copy of this ebook from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed One of the Girls by Lucy Clarke. The first chapter reveals that someone dies on the hen weekend to Greece, and you’re left wondering who it is throughout the rest of the book – and trying to figure it out. Each chapter is from a different character’s point of view, which I’m not usually a fan of, but in this case it works (at least for me.) Every character has a secret, and they’re slowly exposed throughout the book…which makes the mystery of who dies even more mystifying.

I was intrigued and enthralled throughout the book. It’s an easy read, with a satisfying conclusion.

Five stars.

Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for the ARC. Look for One of the Girls June 28, 2022.

My first book by Lucy Clarke and it had me hooked from start to end.

We have 6 girls all going on Lexi’s hen weekend to a fictional Greek island..

All started off ok and was going to plan until a secret about one of the girls unfolds and in a gripping twist someone dies… BUT WHO!!

It had me gripped on every sentence!

A super twisty thriller, set on a beautiful greek island. A small group of ladies are all staying in a secluded villa for Lexi's hen do. Most of the group don't know one another and all are very different personalities.

Some of the personalities I found grated on me more than others - I think it was Bella I wasnt a fan off (I read this a while ago - the attention seeking borderline alcoholic character)

This really ramped up the tension and kept me reading, and I loved the twist with Robyn (the yoga friend?).

Really transports you to the scene, introduces lots of interpersonal drama and lots of twists toward the end. Very well executed.

It took me such a long time to get my head around who was who,and their relationships with each other.
It made for a confusing beginning to the book.
Once I'd got it,it seemed everyone had a secret, and to be honest,a lot of them weren't that big,or that scandalous.

Overall,it kept me quiet for a few hours, and that's never a bad thing.

This is not only a whodunnit it is also a whoisthevictim? The very first page reveals a red wrap fluttering in the breeze, caught in the zip of a body bag. Wowzer!

Then it goes back in time and we meet bride to be Lexi and her five friends heading to a villa in Aegos for her hen weekend. I found it very telling that Robyn split the group early on by calling out that she was on The B List. Which was also apparent by the very different roles assigned by the two taxis. One straight to the villa with Lexi, Bella and Fen. While Robyn, Eleanor and Ana were sent to the supermarket.

Now it wouldn’t be much of a thriller if they were all really lovely ladies who got on like a house on fire and had a jolly marvellous time now would it! And these women range from dull as dishwater to slippery as a snake and one definitely has a different agenda to just laying on a sun lounger.

As secrets and lies simmer under the heat of the sun it was time for me to sit back and watch these completely self absorbed women turn on each other and wait for the fallout. I enjoyed seeing their true colours start to show and I’m not a reader who needs to like characters luckily as I would have been hard pushed here.

The setting is simply stunning and so well described that I could taste the olives and feel the sun on my face and the sand between my toes. Pretty impressive for a fictional island.

This is very much a slow burn thriller that is more about getting to know the characters. While I did find some a bit stereotyped there were others who were a complete surprise. Did I guess the victim? No. Did I guess whodunnit? No. So all in all I would say Lucy Clarke did a pretty good job. Especially with that killer last line ……
