I didn’t think this story was bad or that the writing was poor, I just don’t think this book was for me. I found the plot to be very intriguing. A dwarf found dead with clues that a troll had killed him. With tensions already high between the dwarfs and trolls, Sam Vimes must quickly find out the truth behind the death or a war may start.

It was fun to be back with the city watch. This was probably the highlight of this book for me is to be with these characters again.

Although I found the plot to be intriguing, I just didn’t love the ending of the book. This is all my subjective opinion, but it just wasn’t as interesting, I found it to be a little underwhelming and just not satisfying. I also felt like there was a lot of stuff going on, which sometimes was harder to follow. This did lead to some confusion at times. Despite this, it was still a typical Discworld book. It was a fun read, I feel it was well written, but just not the thing for me.

another average watch novel. not bad but not outstanding. if you like same vimes and the mystery of another undefined bodyless mystical entity invading the plot than this might be one for you. overall it is just more of the same.

I love Discworld books in general but this one is just fantastic. Captain Vimes of the Night Watch reads to his son every day, come hell, high water, or interspecies warfare. Hilarious and touching.

I found this book on my shelf, and I couldn't remember reading it. It's one of the later Watch books, Vimes is no longer the poor copper with the cheap boots that made him so endearing at the beginning of the series. But the remaining cast of characters are as good as ever. Story is a bit hit and miss, with a mystical entity that Indidnt care too much about, and dwarf politics.
