I really enjoyed reading this comic and the Bucky feels hit HARD! The ending was very sad and feels like the beginning of something more to come. Recommend if you are a Marvel comic and Bucky Barnes fan!

Wow. This is by far my favorite Winter Soldier book yet. This storyline is clean-cut and simple, packed with action from start to finish. The emotional impact of what the Winter Soldier — what Bucky Barnes — goes through in this short mission is hard-hitting and awful. I had real hope in the middle of this book, but by the end I remembered how many years of brainwashing and torture he was forced to endure. I'm so sad.

Honestly, I'm pretty surprised how much I enjoyed this comic.
Bucky is one of my favourite characters in the MCU, but this is my first time seeing him in comic form. Turns out, this doesn't really focus on him at all. He's there, and he's an integeral part of the plot, but he isn't leading the plot. I was a bit annoyed, but in the end, I think this turned out for the best.
I enjoyed the story arc overall, and the individual character arcs. Bucky's was tragic and heroic and everything I wanted - besides the limited time spent with him.
A highlight was the villain, who I won't spoil, as I think discovering him and what he can do as the story unfolds makes for a more suspenseful read. This villain was just so creepy, I loved it.
The lead character was rather dull, but his arc and where the story brought him was fascinating, definitely left me wanting more.

Overall, had a great time reading this, from start to finish. Highly recommend to any Winter Soldier fan!

I really liked this comic but with the stakes so high, there was only one way it could conceivably end and so there wasn't a huge amount of tension. But overall, still a really enjoyable comic with lots of action.

This is one of my personal faves, so I'm absolutely biased. The plot development is somewhat lacking, but the writing is superb, and the art—while not to everyone's taste—is excellent.

I love almost anything with Bucky Barnes in it, so take the rating with a grain of salt.

I'd seen bits and pieces of Bucky's post-Winter Soldier storyline floating around on the internet but I was not prepared for the full force of this volume. There were some silly bits (a gun-toting gorilla?!) and not all of it was post-WS (a few bits were mid-WS period) but all of it was interesting and gave some great insight into Barnes' character.

Rick Remender, he's not happy unless our hero is pummelled into a physical and emotional mess. When I saw Remender had written this, I knew the violence and manpain was going to be plenty, and I wasn't wrong.

Though it appears to be part of The Winter Soldier's story, the novel actually focuses on Agent Ran Shen, and is a bit of a spy romp. There's a femme fatale with gravity defying boobs (and worms), a bad guy who looks like David Bowie, a love interest/scientist who needs saving, and Nick Fury who disappears for most of the story, turning up only to make a bad situation awful. There is also Hydra, SHIELD, and the Soviets, all after this scientist's fancy pants formula, and a heap of action and gore.

In the midst of this is the Winter Soldier, because his life's not stressful enough, having his brain zapped into remembering his past and momentarily being free of his programming. It's not a fantastic read, and the artwork didn't really appeal, but it was a readable enough romp and I never say no to Bucky Barnes angst.

I read this for Bucky, and his storyline was great, if brief and certainly not the highlight of an issue with his name. I didn't really care for Ran Shen, and I really disliked how sexualized Mila was for no reason at all. It was a sad story for Bucky, and an overall okay tale.

This was so good!

It starts with 1966 story as the SHIELD agents including Ran Shen and Fury want two Nazi scientists but the soviets also want them and so they have sent the Winter Soldier to retrieve them and well the fight on all sides, Ran falling in love with the female Nazi scientist and we see her story and well the two are a pair now and more fights and death and the coming of a new HYDRA villain named "The Drain" (mind controller?) and well Bucky in action, Ran sacrificing so many things to ensure his new beloved escapes, enter SHIELD and so many twists and turns and this was epic! The Alchemy formula! The origins of Ran shen! A rare insight into who the Winter Soldier really was for a brief time!

Its epic and I love the way it ties into his Captain America run and he does well to hint at some big HYDRA villains and also give an epic origin to Ran Shen aka the future Iron Nail and how he really started hating SHIELD and America and how he learned of the Communist manifesto from that female Nazi scientist and its epic and yeah you do feel for Shen in the story. Its perfect and its less a winter solider story and more an origin for one of the best villains of Cap! Just a perfect read!
