There are only four stories included in The Liminal Zone, so if you are looking for a diverse collection, this may not be the best Junji Ito book for you. Although I enjoyed all four stories, if someone was new to Junji Ito, The Liminal Zone would not be my first recommendation. It is okay, but it is not Ito's best work.

Madonna is probably my favourite story from this collection due to its religious and paedophilic themes. I was eager to read The Spirit Flow of Aokigahara, especially to see how the notorious suicide forest was depicted in Junji Ito's universe, but I was somewhat let down by the story.

The Liminal Zone contains 4 bizarre and creepy short stories by the great Junji Ito

Weeping Woman Way
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My second favorite story that explores grief in an unusual and twisted way

Madonna
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My favorite of the four stories - extremely religious
girl school with a fucked up principal that grooms his students into believing they are the Madonna reborn ? Loved the concept !

The Spirit Flow of Aokigahara
⭐️⭐️⭐️
I really liked the beginning of this one but the ending left me unsatisfied why it was overall my least favorite

Slumber
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
This one was good and proper creepy but also quite forgettable compared to the other’s

I am determined to read Junji Ito’s complete backlist and everything he will write in the future.
