"I am not calm, how can it be that I decided to take a man's life , then executed him quite neatly all by myself, and yet I cannot choose my own future."

This was a dark macabre tale of female empowerment and self discovery. It also reminded me of a Georgian genderbent 'You'.

This tells the story of Anne Jacobs, who at 19years old has been told by her parents that she is to marry a man of their choosing. Well this is most inconvenient as she has just met Fub, the butcher's boy. So she decides to forge her own path and live her life as she wants. People become objects she needs to remove.

The heroine was really interesting, she has no compassion or empathy and is quite literally psychotic. She is frustrated at how 'weak' her mother is and how her parent's marriage began to fall apart after years of miscarriages and the loss of her baby brother.

It is a very layered story with alot of dark humour. It deals with the complexity of relationships, motherhood and constraints and hypocrisy around women.
