Finished this book yesterday and was blown away by how much I loved it! I can't believe I have to wait one more day for the second book to arrive at my house. It wasn't available at the library. I adored the story and all the history along with it. What I especially love about Quinn's books so far is the way she weaves in authentic historical characters and events into her narratives. What a fantastic journey it was reading this book!!

This was a very exciting and slightly soapy novel set in Rome. Emperors! Mistresses! Betrayals! Lavish parties! Gladiators! It has the lot.

Kate Quinn is a master of her craft. While it is difficult, given the time frame, for these books to be as well-researched as her books about the world wars, Quinn tries to rely on history and historical figures to move her narrative forward. I could not put down a single book in the whole series until I’d finished them all.
