A solid introduction to Marx. I am already familiar with the subject, so reading this at times was sort of tedious. Nevertheless, I would definitely recommend it.

A clear concise look at the philosophy of Karl Marx, looking at his life and influences and leaving out discussion of Lenin, the Soviet Union and what else happened years after his death. This book contains a chronology of Marx's life, an informative introduction by the author, a brief look at Marx's life and excerpts of Marx's writings throughout his lifetime. It is fascinating to me how his philosophy caught on even though he didn't ever say how society would transform into his ideal communist society after the revolution. Marx was a philosopher and never actually lived a communist life himself and actually living a great portion of his life off the capitalist wealth created by his friend, colleague and ghostwriter Friedrich Engels. It can't be denied however that his ideas have had a great impact on our world, particularly those former communist countries. The excerpted writings were included with brief introductions to put them in historical context and showed a progression in Marx's thinking over his professional lifetime. I received a free ARC of this book through Goodreads First Reads Giveaways.
