DNF at page 97.
So boring and the characters were annoying.

Anne Tyler is a master of the family novel, I was first introduced to her through the movie adaptation of The Accidental Tourist. I then plunged into her body of written work. I've never been disappointed with any of her writing. French Braid is another winner.

I’d give this 3.5 stars. It was good, very relatable with how families drift apart and move on, while still trying to maintain connection. Mercy was the worst character though, and perhaps she was supposed to be unlikeable? She just seemed so selfish and self-absorbed. Still, it was a quick read and I did love how the book spanned over 60 years of this family’s life.

I’m never disappointed with an Anne Tyler book. I flew through this and was sad when it ended.

Vintage Tyler perfection. Tyler shows, in book after book, what happens when you let character and voice drive the narrative rather than plot. All 24 of her books should be compulsory reading before any writer is allowed to publish fiction. This is closest to Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant, yep.
