A fun read with engaging characters, some checkered pasts, and a protagonist who's coming into her own. I especially enjoyed the fractured alternate-history map of the United States that comes out through the course of the story. No long-winded world building, just broad strokes that tell you what you need to know. I'm looking forward to reading the next installment.
