Divergent had the perfect mix of action and romance, that kept my eyes glued to the pages.

The world that Veronica Roth created for Divergent in futuristic Chicago was incredibly well developed; it is divided into five factions, each ruled by a trait, Bravery, Intelligence, Honesty, Selflessness, or Peacefulness. The factions were all very detailed and thought out as to how each trait would affect the lives of the people, down to the food they ate and the clothing they wore. I also enjoyed hoe Veronica Roth brought you into the life of each of the factions, their separate rules, and how she melded the attributes (honesty, bravery, selflessness, intelligence and peacefulness) into their lives in so many different and unexpected ways. I would have liked to has seen to the life in the other three factions, but hopefully we will get to see inside them in the next book! Divergent has a well thought out, fresh and interesting dystopian world.

I loved, loved, loved, Divergent’s main character Tris, she was a determined and independent girl who stood for what she believed. Tris was also on of the best strong female protagonists I have seen in a long time. But Tris also faulted in the way she isolated herself from her friends, never fully opening herself up to them. I loved watching Tris’s internal fight, could she really give up all of her past self from the selfless faction in order to truly belong in the new faction or could she manage to stay true to both? I really enjoyed the questions Divergent posed, such as; what does it really mean to be brave? The chemistry between Tris and Four was simmering in every scene they were in together and there were times where I was nearly screaming at the page waiting for them to get together! Four was also a very interesting character; he was closed off and complicated but somehow also gentle and caring.

The ending of Divergent totally surprised me; it was thrilling and full of twists and turns packed one after another. I really have no idea where the next book in the Divergent Trilogy will go or when it will be released but I can’t wait to read it! Divergent is the one of the best books I have read all year, one of those books that you must run out to the store and get immediately!

this book definitely reflects the era of which it was written lol. it felt like every fantasy and dystopian book ever had a child but then you looked at the child without your glasses on and the lines are super blurry and then halloween comes so the kid dresses up but you just cant tell what theyre trying to be so you end up squinting and having to guess.

anyways it was incredibly predictable- the only thing out of the entire story that a.) i didnt predict and b.) shocked me, were the sudden, extremely unnecessary, and lazy descriptions of sexual assault that the main character goes through. after it happens, there is practically no discussion, and the book was so shallow and surface level that i honestly could have zoned out for three chapters of the audiobook and still would have been able to perfectly understand everything that was happening. honestly, it felt as if the author and everyone involved just looked at what was selling well at the time and wrote all of them into one book but still managed to be worse than all of the others. i enjoy the tropes and aspects that this book repeats from the other 2010s tumblr and pinterest classics which is why i didnt completely despise the book; it's bad in a sometimes... good way. if i was physically reading it and wasn't so determined on listening to the entire audiobook in one day, i probably would have dnfed it. sorry if i just attacked anyones childhood(i might watch the movie for the giggles).

This is the third??? time I read this book, and even though I still enjoyed it, the story didn’t hit the same as it did when I was younger:(( I’m still going to reread the whole series tho!
