This was multiple short stories WITHIN a short story. What a ride! But at the end, I was disappointed that the question still wasn't answered and will remain a mystery. Oh well.

I find this book completely disappointing. I was expecting a crazy adventure Magnus had gone on, and instead ended up with four, ten ish paged stories of different times he was in Peru. And I would have been ok with that, had one of the stories actually told why he was banned from Peru. Yes, I'm not kidding. You never find out. There's like four stories and you aren't told why. Because apperently Magnus doesn't know himself! Well if that's true why did you write a book about it? I may have given this book a better rating had the stories been full of that fun, adventurous, wittiness we always saw in TMI and TID. But it had none. I think that was the effect of the other author. Either way, it didn't work.

The stories had their moments, but:
1. We're not told what really happened in Peru.
2. Or why he was banned from it.
3. I didn't remember Magnus being quite that annoying. Which is funny because really, I remember he was the character I sort of liked best in the series... hm.

In all honesty, I liked the book. Magnus is a great character and the stories themselves are light and funny. The audiobook version however....

Have you ever been.

As annoying as all that was to read, this book was even more annoying to listen to. I listen to a lot of audiobooks, and while I don't expect every one to have the same level of production, I do expect producers to hire someone who will read them properly. The poor reading was a disservice to the book.

I definitely recommend the book however. It's a quick fun read and gives great insight to one of the best characters (IMO) in this series.

I wish I could put 3.5 stars. I enjoyed the stories, but I usually give 4 stars to "awesome yet not as awesome as my favourite books", and these were below that level.

It fits Magnus. Out of control, sometimes childish, with a pinch of genuine feelings that make the character so endearing, even when he's throwing up like crazy.
My favourite chapter/tiny story was the 1890, precisely for the reasons I cited above. It has the whole romantic Magnus in it: the ridiculous flirting Magnus, the Magnus in love, and the broken hearted Magnus who then gets to move on.

I haven't read anything from the Shadowhunters' world in a relatively long time and it was great to read about Magnus, I can't wait to read the other ones.

You CANNOT be serious. This didn't just end like that.

Sorry... I was saving this tiny book or should I say short story, for when I needed some TMI, but it's a letdown. I know that it wasn't supposed to be taken too seriously, but come on, I've read better fan-fiction.
It's a childs' book for kids in second grade at best.

Quote of the book goes to:
"I could not have known! Moreover, I wish to assure both of you that I did not make any amorous advances on female monkeys."

Also, this pretty much sums the seriousness of the book.

I am going to start reviewing the novels like this. I really enjoyed my reread and the start of getting back in the world of Cassie Clare. I just love Ragnar and Magnus so much.

i loved this so much! it was so funny and heartwarming.

one of my fav things about cassandra clare’s books is how she writes the thoughts and feelings of her characters. like it really tugs at your heartstrings.
