I was rewarded for sticking it out through miscommunications and secrets (currently some of my least favorite tropes) in the first part of the book, because the later part of the book was completely amazing. Everything I loved about the magic system and worldbuilding really blossoms in this book, including the strong distinction between witchcraft being evil and the magic which is a gift from the God-Father being good.
Also, I thought this was the last book in a trilogy, but I'm not even mad about the cliffhanger if it means we get more what the second half of this book was like!
