This was EVERYTHINGGGG - I can’t believe I hadn’t read it earlier because this is by far my favorite historical romance and probably is going to be one of my favorite romances generals of all time 
I loved Luz Alana and Evan together and just generally everything abt this book was amazinggg - ugh the chemistry holy shit so good

Ooof, I am so of two minds on this one. I LOVE reading a historical set in Britain and France that actually acknowledges, reckons with, and proposes an alternative to the imperialism, colonialism, and enslavement that supported the lives of wealthy people in those nations at that time (and through their knock-on effects still support wealth today). I love that Las Léonas are young women of intelligence, drive, and accomplishment -- a doctor, an artist, and the FMC of this novel, a distiller. And it's got all kinds of histrom-typical hijinks done with pace and verve -- funny business with heirs and inheritance, secrets, dramatic revelations, plots, schemes, a fancy party, and more.

But -- the FMC's whole "ugh, I hate you, do me now!" thing with the MMC *really* didn't work for me. It just put me right off. I'm still glad I read it (and am even proposing it as a book club read), but oof. So consider whether that's a "nope" for you or not.

I feel like I enjoyed everything else in this book more than the romance. Maybe I just didn't like the main dude that much. I felt like the romance aspect was less developed than the rest of the plot. It kinda felt like there was no build up, they just met and then were suddenly in a marriage-with-benefits.

I feel like the fact that they were already attracted to each other and making out and stuff kind of undercuts the marriage of convenience idea. Like "we're attracted to each other but no we're definitely not in love, what are you talking about, this is purely a business arrangement" was a bit odd.

I loved this! The characters, the romance, the spice, the Latina representation, the hot Scottish man, the badass feminine power, saucy comebacks. Everything was delicious and delightful and I loved it.
