The series has grown so much in me that I couldn't think for another book or another series for a few hours (that's a lot for me). Amelia Gray's world has come to me both in dreams and in my commute. I want to spend more time in her world, to know more and to discover what's up with her and Devlin.
And oh, gosh, that ending and the cliff hanger! I need the new one ASAP!
Tidying up relationships and discovering both about family and ancestors. We discover part of Amelia's ancestors, but also we uncover, little by little, Devlin's part of the family. And as always, there is love, lush vegetation, cemeteries, ghosts and visions. Lovely read.

16/4- I have waited so long to read this book. Here I go.
22/4- Well I just finished it..... It took me longer to read than I would have liked due to school and study. I am not sure how I feel about it. I think I built it up in my head so much that I was expecting so much more. Overall it is a good story but not what I thought it would be. The ending tho really sucked me in. I want to know what is happening.

Buddy read with the Mash Potato MacHalos
I liked this book better than the last one. I like the direction the story is headed. This one had more of a mystery, and more focused on Amelia's family history.
The first two books of this series I gave high ratings to. It was new and exciting, but now I'm looking for more growth and it's just not there. Amanda Steven's story voice is still bland and dry. The most disappointing thing is that there is still no answer about Devlin's mystery. 4th book in and us readers deserve more than the scraps Amanda Stevens has fed us. He's really being stretched out too far and the next book doesn't look promising.

At this point I know I love this series, but the romance with Devlin seriously makes it hard to give 5 stars.
I am still going to read the next one, which I think will be a turning point for them... maybe.

I've wanted to read this book for a while and the month of October was the perfect time to get back to the Graveyard Queen series. Lots and lots of ghosts and creepiness make for great Halloween reading. And I must say, this edition to the series is the creepiest yet . I felt like the first three books in this series were a bit shaky at times, but this one was definitely an improvement and the best book in the series so far. The author has come into her own here with the story telling. With this book being so good, this series is fast becoming one of my favorite paranormal/urban fantasy series. I like the uniqueness of this series as an urban fantasy that does not include the typical creatures that normally inhabit those. No werewolves or vampires or shapeshifters or witches or wizards or fairies here, just ghosts and demons.
The Visitor starts off not long after The Prophet ends. Amelia is plagued by a ghost while both awake and in her dreams. She also starts seeing another being that doesn't seem to be either ghost or human. After her upstairs neighbor starts cleaning out the creepy cellar in the house they are renting, more odd things begin to happen, one being the discovery of a stereograph card in the cellar that includes an image of the woman whose ghost has been haunting Amelia.
I continue to like Amelia. There was some growth for her character in this book as she discovered yet more about herself and her ancestry. I'm looking forward to seeing how this is all going to play out in subsequent books. She most certainly has a quest now that is going to take several books to complete. Also, Amelia and John Devlin are now in a relationship, sort of. Just when I thought I knew all of Devlin's secrets, there seem to be even more. My feelings about Devlin have been very hot and cold throughout the books. They were mostly cold this time around.
One disappointment for me was that the dog, Angus that Amelia adopted was barely in the book, as he is now staying at her parent's house for an indefinite period of time. I hope that doesn't mean he's being written out of the series. I liked his addition in the two previous books and hope at some point the author brings him back. I also missed her mother and aunt as they were absent from this book. Those are really the only two small complaints I have.
I enjoyed this one so much I'm going straight into the next book.

And it seems with good reason. His behavior was really annoying. The way he went back and forth with acting all crazy about her, to putting up his wall and not talking to her was a real jerk thing to do. Why not just talk to her about what was going on? Then when he leaves at the end he offers no real explanation. His over-protectiveness got on my nerves a bit as well. I think I'm over Devlin as the love interest. I'm not going to deny that their attraction for each other is hot, but there needs to be more. They also must have been pretty frustrated by the end of the book, because this author really likes to write romantic scenes where something supernatural interrupts the romance. In this book alone it happened twice, or was it three times?One disappointment for me was that the dog, Angus that Amelia adopted was barely in the book, as he is now staying at her parent's house for an indefinite period of time. I hope that doesn't mean he's being written out of the series. I liked his addition in the two previous books and hope at some point the author brings him back.

I was also heartbroken when he barked and started to lung at Amelia like he didn't know her any more. It seemed like it was because of her developing supernatural powers. I don't know how that can be remedied, but I hope it is.I enjoyed this one so much I'm going straight into the next book.

Amelia Gray is a graveyard restorer, and as such has spent her entire career (and much of her childhood) in old, neglected graveyards. It just so happens, she can also see and comunicate with the dead, and here in The Visitor, that gift(?) leads her to Kroll Cemetery, which has a tragic story to tell, as tragic as Amelia's own...
I've been in love with these stories since book one. The atmosphere and setting is unlike anything else on my shelf. Each one has been so absorbing. The author's ability to deeply unnerve her readers whilst also entralling them with her lush descriptions of the deep south are second to none. Of course, I'm also eagerly following the developing romance between Amelia and her detective John Devlin, as frustrating a pastime as that can be.
If you're relatively new to this series, then lucky you; you didn't have to wait fora million four years between this book and the one previous. As it had been a while for me, I decided to re-read the 1st and 3rd books just before starting The Visitor. Why skip the 2nd book I hear you ask? Because although we learned a lot about Amelia's birth in it (which I'd managed to retain anway) it was really the relationship between John and Amelia that I wanted to be fresh on, and he's not really in [b:The Kingdom|11162228|The Kingdom (Graveyard Queen, #2)|Amanda Stevens|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1324584432s/11162228.jpg|16086233] at all.
Speaking of Devlin, we made such progress with him in [b:The Prophet|13024331|The Prophet (Graveyard Queen, #3)|Amanda Stevens|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1322258553s/13024331.jpg|18187177] so it was slightly annoying that he can't remember any of it! Or can he? These two seriously need to comunicate more. I want them to get to the point where it can all finally be out there in the open and they can work together. There's still a lot of mystery where Devlin in concerned, which I suppose it no bad thing, actually. Nothing worth having comes easy, and all that. I've just purchased the next two books, The Sinner and The Awakening so hopefully I'll get what I'm waiting for there.

Throughout this series is a mysterious atmosphere that makes me want to keep reading. I don't understand everything that's happening, but I do want to know what happens next. I like Amelia and wonder what she will be able to do ones she fully understands her power. ...more

Amelia, is chased, frightened, hurt, tricked, and lied to. Her history is catching up to her faster than she is ready to for, and she is evolving. Everything she thought she knew is about to change forever. Amelia's road is full of darkness and death.
Cleaning out the storage under her house an item is found that sets her on a journey to find the truth behind an image that looks like her. Her restoration business gives her an in to help solve the mystery of a cult mass suicide and her own history. The family that owns the graveyard are something to see, freaky, creepy and dangerous. One of them has a deep relationship with bees, one with cloves, and the other is just creepy by association. I will never enjoy cloves scented things again, thanks Ms. Stevens.
There are bugs, nasty ones, mazes, rusted gates, creaking floor boards, tinkling keys and did I tell you about the bugs ? EEEEKKKK ! Okay I have a bit of an exoskeleton phobia and there are plenty in these pages. Wait till you get to the book marker switch !
Devlin, her man is not the same. If you read the last book you know he had a major event happen, well he's not okay. That isn't all that is up with him, he has a Grandfather who is demanding something of him. Big change here folks, BIG.
I loved this fourth book in the series, they just get better and better. Instead of following along the same road it had been traveling this one took a wild left snap to the left then spun around and wiggled a bit more. The southern gothic style was amazing as always, the pacing just right with not a dull page in the book. One complaint, I don't have the next book, yet.
