Love the world she’s created and the mysteries throughout the story. This book is a bit more violent and smutty than the last one but overall I still really enjoyed the read and world.
Rachel Gillig is definitely an author I’ll return to.

A great way to finish this story! The shift in perspectives was jarring at first, but it grew on me quickly. Elspeth's narrative in the first book was (fittingly) the roots and trunk of the story to get it going, and the second book expanded, spreading the story like branches to fill it out. Loved this book -- the world, the story, the characters. I liked seeing beyond Elspeth's narrow view to see a broader story told through many voices.

I was a little let down by how short this book felt and how clearly the line of good guys and bad guys was drawn. I felt like I was supposed to feel sympathetic for many of the "villains" of the first book, to try to understand their motivations. I felt like the villain we got was a lot less exciting than the villain I had imagined in speculation. This knocked a whole half a star off my final rating, taking away from my satisfaction in this finale.

Overall a lovel  ending to a great story.

This duology is definitely in my top 5 reads of the year. So captivating. The characters are so lovable and have you rooting for them even through their mistakes. The magic system is so intriguing and I loved learning more and more as the story progressed.
