2.5⭐️ rounded up to 3 because Joe Arden and Erin Mallon are great narrators.

The chemistry between the two MCs just wasn’t there for me, the high school ex gf just made this get stupid, and I felt “meh” for the whole book. But as I am currently in audiobook purgatory and cannot find anything to listen to, I just finished it

This is a highly anticipated first book and the start of a new series. I constantly talk about the Bailey family and was pretty sad when it ended, so getting the start of this family was exciting for me. Much like the first book in the Bailey series, this one started a little slower for me because there was just so much to do in creating a new series.

I enjoyed Cade and Presley but struggled more with the story than I normally do. Again, I think that had to do with two many things in the fire at the same time, so to speak. Between Reese, Cade's emotional issues, and even a few transitions, the story did not come alive as much as I had hoped it would. However, I have high hopes that as the story goes on and fewer details are needed in making the series have a foundation, I think that will change.

It ended on a doozy of a cliffhanger of what/who is to come and I am glad because as soon as the story mentioned this particular character and what they were going through, it made me instantly want the details of the why that had happened. Even though this was not my favorite of this author duo, I am still excited for what is to come.

My Beautiful Neighbor by Piper Rayne is the first in a small-town romance series about the Greene family in Alaska. If you have read the writing duo’s Bailey series, this is a spin-off series, but I didn’t read the Baileys and never felt like I missed something. I did find out about a prequel though after reading this, called My Twist of Fortune which is currently free on Kindle.

Cade owns a brewery with some of his brothers in Sunrise Bay, Alaska. When a beautiful, polished blonde walks in, he knows she’s not from Alaska, and the whole town speculates who she might be. It turns out Presley is there for an inheritance from her birth mom; an old sewing store that she is to split with her sister, the child her mom kept. Only her sister knew nothing about her.

The sewing store is next to Cade’s brewery, and Cade and his brother planned to expand into the space, but Presley has decided to stay in the small town and turn the space into a bookstore. Their romance bloomed pretty easily, but Cade was completely against commitment since losing his mom as a child.

My Beautiful Neighbor felt a little more like an introduction to the Greene series than a romance by itself. The authors spent a lot of time world-building and introducing a ton of characters and it took away a little from the romance. I can tell this series will keep getting better.

Likes:
•I loved the small-town setting with a city girl.
•How she had an instant found family.
•I loved her adoptive mom and how understanding she was.
•Despite meeting so many new characters, I was able to keep it all straight.
•How close-knit the Greene family is.

Dislikes:
•The romances in the book seemed to take a secondary role to setting up the Greene family series.
•I feel like the whole book kind of skimmed the surface of the story. We never really got to know the characters deeply enough.

The Narration:
Erin Mallon is my favorite narrator. Joe Arden did a great job as well, and I think they both added to my enjoyment of the story.

The Down & Dirty:
My Beautiful Neighbor by Piper Rayne was clearly the first in a new series. They spent a lot of time setting up the series and introducing the town and all the players and it may have taken a little away from the main romance in this first installment. I can tell though, The Greene Series will just keep getting better and better. I enjoyed this My Beautiful Neighbor a lot, and plan to listen to more in this series.

Rating: 4 Stars, 2.5 Heat, 4.5 Narration

Did someone say new series? Yep the duo does it again! New family and town but still all the bells and whistles we love. I cried after the last series and glad to have a new family to be obsessed with. This book delivered in true Piper Rayne fashion and packed a punch. We meet again our grandma duo that we love and guess what ladies and gentleman....... they are still up to their same tricks lol. Cade is part owner of the local brewery along with his step brother Jed and they hope to expand their business and come close to snatching up the space next door. Well we know what happens to plans sometimes. Presley is the blonde beauty in town that has everyone whispering. When Cade and Presley meet well lets say its not a instant friendship lol. Presley is determined but has some issues to work through. With some time these teo come to an agreement but will it work? Love the cover its so colorful and alluring. Again loved the hero and heroine both funny and charismatic. It was a great start to the new series!

Book club pick

Originally I wanted to read a different book in this series, but I like to read books in order if possible, so I picked this one for my book club pick to see if I even liked the authors (author duo) writing style enough to stick out several books to get to the one I wanted to read, and also because it was a quick read (even quicker when I listen at 2X speed). This one reminded me of another series that I read a while ago through KU as far as small town (I love that this one was set in Alaska), lots of characters introduced, and I really felt like it was a spin off of a previous series because they were mentioning other towns near by or characters that we should know, also it ends in a way that sets up the next book in the series. As far as the story I would say I enjoyed it for the most part, it didn't really feel any different from any other indie author's small town Kindle Unlimited series that I have read IMO. I did really like the meddling grandparents, and I thought that the family was fun. I did like the friendship that Presley and Cade created, and almost wish we got more moments of them as friends before the romantic part of their relationship started. I feel like it was rushed and it could be because it was a shorter book, but there was just something missing IMO. Like I said this one does end on a way that makes you so curious for the next in the series. I do think I was intrigued enough to read it (it has the amnesia trope), but I'm not sure this series will keep my attention long enough to get to the one I originally wanted to read.
