This was a difficult read. Surprisingly triggering and upsetting, but in a good way. The author perfectly encapsulated depression in such a vivid way that it hurt. I was aching, especially near the end. I was so terrified of it ending horribly and taking my heart in the process.
It ended well. I don't buy that the police would let her go if they found the suicide note- but after the panic attack I got, expecting Gilda to be put in prison and dying by her own hand in desperation, I'm glad it didn't end that way. I don't think I could have handled it.. I got so attached to her. I wish I could help her. I wish she would let others help her. I'd like to think she found a support system and got better, instead of just slumping back into the bad place she was in and shutting everyone out. I hope Eli is okay, and that if he came out as trans, that things went well and the drinking stopped. This book was heavy, aggressively sad, and it stood out. I related so much to so many little things she mentioned. It's always the little things. On a happier note, it taught me a few things I didn't know, especially about the Catholic church. Those parts were interesting. I'll remember this for quite a while

This is one of the most peculiar books I've read in a long time, but also one that I identified with greatly as an overly anxious queer person. The author impressively puts us in the headspace of the main character and combined with the unique plotline of an atheist lesbian working at a Catholic church - sets the scene for an awesome read. I've been in a reading slump and I read this book in 2 days. Would recommend this book for anyone who can deal with heavy themes (see tagged triggers). Well written!

I loved this book. It was so different and strange yet completely and utterly normal. I
knew right away that it was going to be right up my alley, just reading the blurb.

The main character, Gilda, has the internal monologue that runs through most mentally ill people, and I was here for it.

It was fast paced, and I loved the stream of consciousness style, written in broken up paragraphs.

I did also know, by the third emergency room visit, that the character and author must be Canadian. It is always nice to read new Canadian talent.

It gave me similar feeling to 13 ways of looking at a fat girl. I loved the style, loved the plot, loved the characters, and hope everyone gives this unique gift a chance!

 I feel seen.

I wish everyone that knows me would read this book. The main character’s thoughts are a pretty accurate depiction of what goes on in my head on a daily basis. Okay, well, maybe like 80%. Either way, if you have a loved one with ADHD, autism, anxiety, social anxiety, depression, or anything along those lines, you should read this book. It’s even a short book!

It’s a story written in a stream of consciousness format. You are in the head of Gilda. The start of the book has you wondering, what’s the deal with her? Is she autistic? ADHD? Depressed? The more I continued to read, the more I felt like I was reading a transcript of my own inner dialogue (albeit an extreme version). If you’ve ever wanted to ask someone, “Why don’t you just tell them??” Or “Why don’t you just say it??,” this may give you a better understanding of the turmoil going on in their head. Honestly, I can’t write enough about this book and at the same time, I can’t put into words how it made me feel.

I think everyone should read this book immediately.
