It took me a while to get into, but man was this an exciting read. I felt like I was really there. Can't wait to read the rest

I went into this book blind. I would not recommend that. Could not give bigger trigger warnings. I get why this book had so much hype, and I get that the whole SA theme was seemingly an attempt for awareness, but it in tandem with the way the author describes female bodies (often using infantilizing language yuck) made me less than pleased. While the story line itself is phenomenally interesting and exciting, I’d argue the author took on a narrative that didn’t suit him. I found it ironic that the women are subversively sexualized, and I wouldn’t really buy into an argument that there’s an intentional point to it to add to the narrative. I get what the author was trying to do with all the SA in the book in regards to the plot, but the inherent and casual sexism was annoying. For a book about a woman, I’m pretty sure it doesn’t pass the Bechtel test as well as I’d hoped. For a book that attempts to evaluate misogyny it sure perpetuated it a lot.

A bit slow to get into but after the groundwork has been laid, it's very suspenseful.

I really enjoyed it and can't wait to read the next one in the series.

Kind of a slow start, but picked up in the second half of the book. Overall a good read. And it made me want to get a book on Swedish sandwiches.
