It has been a while since I listened to a memoir which is why when I saw that Kerry Washington came out with a memoir, I knew I had to listen to it ASAP.

Thicker Than Water takes you on the journey of Washington learning about her origins while also juggling rising stardom. Kerry Washington is more than just an actress who plays powerful women on our screens. She is an activist, a mother, a caretaker, a survivor, a wife, and an overall powerhouse. She truly sheds all her layers in this memoir and offers the world a look into her traumatic past, and how she has had grit and grace through all of the challenges she has been faced with.

If you are looking for a memoir that will inspire you to reach your goals as well as come face-to-face with your past traumas to create a better future for yourself, I would highly recommend you pick up this audiobook.

I would rate this book a 6 out of 5 because I greatly enjoyed it. Washington's vulnerability and writing style made this book relatable and difficult to put down. I identified with Washington's description of being the only child and the dynamics that are created within a family of this type.

I also really appreciate the care and introspection that Washington took when looking back on her childhood and evaluating things given the knowledge she learned about her family. She does mention that she has been in therapy, which contributes to her perspective, but she details her story with such grace and compassion.

Highly recommend it for memoir lovers and Washington fans!
