This was… fine. Not bad or anything, but nothing really to recommend it either.

I JUST ADORED THIS BOOK! It was as good as Id hoped and I JUST LOVE ALBA AND GRADY. GOSH IT WAS JUST SO CUTE AND FUNNY AND NERDY. I loved it. It also held a lot of themes you can relate to, beings cared of change and the future, but I also love the message in the end. I JUST LOVE IT READ IT AND LOVE IT TOO

This book was absolutely everything. A Christmas setting where people are complaining about the heat - I live this, and I was still so confused because every Christmas I've read about is set in Winter. A main character who's a fecking comic book nerd. Friends who tell each other that they love each other. An amicable ex situation.

But mostly, it encapsulated everything I've been feeling in regards to my studies. Okay, so I didn't have to move from a rural community to study, but I'm all too familiar with the feeling of not being sure if what I want to do is actually what I want to do.

This was a fun read, but it also made me laugh ("It's not a fart in a lift!") and cry (Spoilers, seriously. Just read it.) and it made me feel a whole bunch of other things I can't quite identify right now. 5/5 - now I need to find 'Life In Outer Space' because if it's anything near as good as Cinnamon Girl, it's going to be fantastic.

I talk a little bit more about it on my channel here. https://youtu.be/Hm4M5u0ZwfY

3.5* I think if I were to use one word to describe 'The Incredible Adventures of Cinnamon Girl' it would be 'fun'. It was a really fun, cute, quick and easy read. Yet, it had a depth to it which I really enjoyed. A lot of the characters and their plots I could relate to in certain ways which I really liked. A really fun and quirky read! Very enjoyable.

Funny, quirky and loaded with comic references.
Coming of age, childhood friends to lovers and end of the world are all tropes we got. It was funny, and Aussie relatable.
I didn’t like the consistent references of these teenagers to p**n - over the top for a YA about teenagers for me.
I enjoyed it though

I would have enjoyed this one so much more had the MC not lied to me in the first few pages. Alba specifically told me that there would not be a romance with her sexy neighbor with whom she grew up with and is her best friend.

So I was expecting a book about friendships, morals and maybe some wacky end of world shiz. But no. I got a stupid love triangle with alba needing to be TOLD she's in love with sexy neighbor man, then going and having this big arse confrontation scene. So I was frustrated.

There were some good moments and I did like the friends of the MCs. I also enjoyed that it was a well written Aussie outback contemporary novel. So I would recommend it if you want a bit of a rubbishy predictable read, but not for anyone wanting a really good read.

This is a trimmed down version of my review, to view the full review visit The Book Ramble.

I received a copy of this book from Peachtree Publishers on Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

When a YouTube video predicts the apocalypse is coming Alba's world turns upside down. And it might be exactly how she likes it. Now her friends, who were all planning to leave for university, are stuck in town waiting for the apocalypse, and a long lost friend returns home. Things are back to the way they were before. But Alba starts to feel panicked and lost, especially as she can't figure out just what it is she wants to do if the world doesn't end on New Year's.

I'm sorry to say that Cinnamon Girl's adventures were not so "incredible". I found this book a chore to read. The writing was dull and ramble-y, the characters are motivated by forces unknown, there's a tedious amount of pop culture, "nerd" references spattered throughout the book, and the romance is totally flat.

The story doesn't ever really lead to any apocalypse, a lot of what happens is dragged out contemplation on the part of Alba but we're not exactly privy to it, we get monologues and introspection that doesn't really crack the shell of who Alba is or what she's about. Alba is uninteresting and poorly developed. She's very one note - she likes comics. We get so many tedious comic book references in this book it's cringeworthy. The biggest thing affecting her life seems to have been her father's death, which happened when she was a kid. We don't find out about any of this until the very end of the book, which means you'll struggle through 250 pages before you actually get to any of this.

There are a long list of characters in this book, but honestly I can't remember any of them. They come into the book like a tornado, never getting proper introductions or development. The romantic interests are even worse though! There's 2 of them, of course, and there's no chemistry whatsoever with either of them!

Overall I just felt like the whole book was flat. I would not recommend this book.
