A sweet tale. I found the Moomins' relentless optimism in the face of pretty extreme circumstances (like calmly sitting in their upper room to have tea while the flood waters continued to rise & treating it all as a great adventure) very cheering, especially considering the current climate in the real world. There is something important to be said for always making the best of a situation. It was these sorts of comments:
"She climbed over to her new home and looked around her. These people had been just a little untidy, she could see. But then, who isn’t. … Pity that the wall had fallen out, but now in summertime it wasn’t so very important."
"And the flood wave had bleached the hammock to a really nice colour."

Snufkin with children was also adorable, and Moominmamma was lovely as always, with such things as:
"Moominmamma nodded. She was dipping her snout in the water and looking at the bottom.
'There’s a nice gleam down there,' she said.
'It’s your golden bracelet,' said Moomintroll. 'And the Snork Maiden’s necklace. Good idea, isn’t it?'
'Splendid,' said his mother. 'We’ll always keep our bangles in brown pond water in the future. They’re so much more beautiful that way.'"

"'Flee!' cried Moominmamma. 'The police are here!'
She didn’t know what her Moomintroll had done, but she was convinced she approved of it.

This book was cute. The animated version is better though. I love the feeling these books give me. When I’m reading, I feel like a child again.

Favorite book in the series so far since the first one (this is my first time reading the whole series), and I think this one even ekes that one out! Captivating storylines, interesting characters, lovely art, made me cry a bit at the end and nearly laugh out loud multiple times. I also used to be a theater person, so I think this made this one even more enjoyable and funny for me. Love the Moomins so much!!!
