Synopsis:
In the frozen wilderness of Alaska, bush pilot Alexandra Macquire comes across the mutilated bodies of an entire family. The killings stir up horrific memories from her childhood until the arrival of a seductive stranger who makes her feel safe. Kade is a vampire warrior hiding a shameful secret that threatens his fragile bond with Alex. Can he confront his personal demons and protect the woman he loves from an unspeakable evil that threatens to destroy them both?

Review:
A significant improvement over the last book. The story is gripping from the start and the romance is one of the most intense in the series.

Kade has just been added to my list of favorite vampires. He is one of the new additions to the Breed warriors and very little is known about him at the outset. The gaps are soon filled in and he is revealed to be sexy, sensitive and honorable. He is the first warrior whose family features prominently in the series, and it is interesting to see the dynamic between the members as well as how Kade copes with the secret he has been keeping from them.

Alex is an independent and determined heroine, and the way in which her relationship with Kade develops and strengthens is simply perfect. As someone who has been exposed to rogue vampires in the past, it is not surprising that she has conflicting feelings once she discovers who he truly is. Her reactions are believable and compelling, and the way in which things work themselves out is intriguing. I do feel that her special ability could have been woven better into the storyline but this is a very small nitpick.

The secondary plots and characters add action and suspense to the main story arc. The appearance of the other warriors toward the end adds extra energy and the scenes presented from the Ancient's perspective actually had me feeling for him. He has suffered at the hands of his captors and cannot really be blamed for what he is or for his natural instincts. Brock’s story is set up well and I look forward to seeing where his connection with Jenna is going, as from what I can gather, she is not a breedmate.

Overall, this is a wonderful series that I wholeheartedly recommend to lovers of paranormal romance.

Kurz-Meinung:

Meine Wertung:
4,6 von 5 Sternen

Shades of Midnight by Lara Adrian: This has to be my 2nd favorite book in the series. I really loved Kade which surprised me because before this he really didn't grab my attention. Granted he was a late character introduction into the series but his friend Brock stood out more (BTW his book will be coming out in Fall 2010 I found out). So it was a pleasant surprise that I was able to get into this book almost from the beginning.

Without giving anything away this book was set in Alaska, which after being able to visit that beautiful state was much more vivid to me in the book. She did a great job of flushing out the characters and having a back story that seemed to really fit. She was able to weave in the on-going Ancient and Dragos storyline without letting it take over the book. I was a little disappointed that the rest of the guys were in it so little and that the rest of the breedmates were not in it at all.

Overall this was a very enjoyable read! Great escapism and I can't wait for Brock's story. I wouldn't be disappointed if he ended up with Jenny :)

I was not a fan of this book.. It's been awhile since I read the last book but is everything always said multiple times? like how Alex should trust Kade. Seriously I was about to blow a freaking gasket over that. You just tell someone to trust you and it happen and he just help on saying it! I was annoyed pretty much the whole book. I felt like it just kept repeating everything. She was so attracted to him but how could she be after 2 days and after what happened to her family. I dunno guys. I just wan't into this one.

Kade honestly wasn't anything special. And Alex was not a smart person. She went back to a crime scene with no weapons no anything, even though she knows whatever attacked and killed 6 people wasn't human. That just doesn't seem smart. Granted nothing happened. But still. Stupid.

This book has probably been my favorite out of the series (other than the first one of course). I really just loved it all. I liked the new scenery a lot, and how there was more of a threat than there usually is. This book kept me on the edge of my seat for a while. I had a hard time putting it down. I hope the next one is just as good.

This is by far my favorite of the series so far. Picture Edward, if he looked like Jacob and Bella if she was a strong independent woman with a job. The underlying plot is developing very nicely and I found it to all to be fast paced and engaging. I thought I was harboring a crush on Rio till I met Kade!

I love paranormal romance, but I think I've come to the conclusion that vampire paranormal romance just is not my cup of tea, it is just a struggle to get through.
