Eh, I'd give this a 2.5 and cut the rating right down the middle. It was required reading for a history course. It was better than many other textbooks I've had to read, more concise and straight-forward with the information than others I've been assigned (which I would think fulfills the requirements of a "brief" edition).
Would I have chosen to read this? No.
But it served its purpose and I got an A in the course.
