Two Old Women is a survival story based on an Athabascan legend. Times are tough one harsh winter and, in an effort to save the rest of his people, the leader of their band makes the decision to abandon two old women in the Alaskan wilderness. It is expected by all that they will soon die. However they discover an inner fortitude they did not know they still possessed. Through hard work and cooperation, using knowledge and experience gained over many years they not only survive, but thrive. A wonderful tale with some important messages about love, forgiveness, the importance of valuing the elderly, and of the elderly continuing to do as much as they can. This story created a vivid sense of place and showcased a traditional indigenous way of life. A quick but enjoyable read.

A wonderful short story about friendship, forgiveness, and overcoming hardship. The narration feels like sitting in your grandma's lap as she tells you stories of her childhood. Overall a very warm and touching story despite taking place in the cold tundra.
Moderate: Abandonment and Animal death
Minor: Ableism, Child death, and Cannibalism
