i ended up liking this book more than i thought i would. its very well written. it was primarily medium pace, with some faster and slower moments. i took off one star just because i felt it took quite a bit to heat up. overall, i would definitely recommend.
Graphic: Death and Blood

It's gonna be a DNF, besties. DNF @ page 104 out of 304. I tried! I fell in love with the concept and the cover, and so I tried.
This took literally 100 pages to get where it was wanting to go, but when it got there, I was too fed up and bored to care. Also, it is just so weird to frame this narrative as a murder mystery when anyone who picked this book up because they are interested in true crime (like me) already knows who HH Holmes was and what he did. It felt tedious at best. I think this author would probably do well with thrillers - adult ones, and completely fictionalized ones. However, they need to learn how to give their main character more than one personality trait.
There is also an egregious typo on page 104. If the book is set in 1893, there is no reason why I should be reading "1993" on the page. Editing matters, y'all. I feel like this book wasted 4 days of my life and put me into a reading slump. Ugh.
