It was good but the ending was not as fulfilling as I wanted or expected. Lots of buildup to that moment and then there’s like. Nothing ?

Alright so, I as a bi woman, LOVE seeing representation. Especially with normal rom com tropes like hate to love and sharing a room, etc.
However, the thing that excited me about this book was that I figured, unlike some problematic straight romances, it would have a super healthy and great romance!
And while it wasn’t like crazy unhealthy, their relationship was still very weird?
Firstly, their advance from enemies to lovers felt pretty forced and unnatural, like their arcs weren’t ready to converge yet. But I figured that eventually they’d snap together and all would be well. But that didn’t really happen? Even though Flora did some nice things for her, like bring her as a guest to events and make her a Thanksgiving dinner, she still was pretty selfish and rude to Millie, even in the end. There’s a whole final twist in the end, where Flora gets unreasonably mad at Millie for being unsure about their status difference and they break it off. And then in the last pages, Millie apologizes to Flora with flowers during a parade. :(
Honestly, I thought it was going to end like “well, it turns out we just don’t work well together and that’s okay. I had a fun adventure in Scotland and now I’ve Learned Stuff About Myself™”. And while that isn’t the most romantic, I was actually kind of excited for a story that followed through on the fact that sometimes couples don’t work no matter how much you want them to.
But no.
Idk, I guess that’s alright. I was just a little disappointed with how this whole book turned out.
Cool setting, great cover, and fun premise of lesbian enemies to lovers that didn’t pan out how I wanted.
I definitely didn’t despise it, but I didn’t love it either.
3/5 stars.
