well written and witty – i.LOVE.THIS.BOOK. this book is so cathartic for anyone that shares any of ziwe’s identities/traits (child of immigrant, blk woman, perfectionist, a creative, etc.). if not, i still highlyyy reccomend this read because its enlightening while being engaging and accessible. it’s not a long read and its so worth the time. its one of the few five stars ive given and will definitely be rereading for years to come. what a body of work!

I really enjoyed this! I love hearing things in Ziwe’s voice and I thought it was a great balance of being funny and very deep/reflective. I was expecting it to be all jokey so the sincerity and vulnerability was very nice. Also, I had a love hate relationship with the footnotes, but I feel like she really shines there.

As a big fan of Ziwe's eponymous show, I was eager to get to know her beyond her sharp and satirical comedy style. And I was not disappointed! Blending her experience breaking into fame with childhood memories, Ziwe reveals her intense, years-long dedication to comedy. And she never stops being hilarious in her signature deadpan way. I genuinely laughed out loud a lot. And between many joking asides, Ziwe presents more developed and nuanced takes on the subject matter she approached in her TV interviews. I am so bummed that her series was canceled (!!) but I can't wait to see what she does next.

I’m always in love with good comedy writing. It’s so underrated!!! I still can’t believe how wild Ziwe’s story of being discriminated against by an employee at a screening of the Barry Jenkins’s adaptation of “If Beale Street Could talk” was! Here she was trying to enjoy the Film version of the story by James Baldwin and the person kept telling her that members of the NAACP needed to wait for the members of the hosting organization to be seated. It was bad! Anyway, Ziwe is an icon!

This is a great book and it had a great start to the book but if you're not willing to read it fast (like I didn't) then your rating will be hindered. So set aside some time for this book, when you can and you'll definitely have a better experience than I did.
