I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Breakaway was a nice and easy read sharing about the story of a young woman who is struggling with where she wants to go in life. She feels unsure about herself which stems from her childhood memories of being overweight (and sent to fat camp by her parents). Although she believes she is at peace with it, you are able to see her internal struggle with it and is always worried what others think about her. Her one true love is her bike riding, something she has enjoyed doing since she was younger for that peace she feels as she rides her bike. Thrown into an uncomfortable task of leading a long trek ride, she is a natural at it but once again she feels unsure with someone from her past on the ride along with her mother and other great characters.

The book tackles multiple tough topics such as self doubt, self confidence, childhood trauma, difficult relationship with a parent, infidelity to name a few. While some scenes are a bit uncomfortable to read if you have ever been in any of these situations, Jennifer does a fabulous job with her writing to get you to keep reading. I would recommend this book to others. I give 5 stars for this book and the emotional feelings you get for the characters as you read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for the ARC.

I typically love Jennifer Weiner books but I couldn’t get into this one. The main character was hard to relate to and the whole book was based on a bike ride which just wasn’t interesting to me.

DNF…so much to dislike about this book, but the other reviews summarize it so I won’t repeat here

This is the worst book I have ever read. For one, I found the love story incredibly unrealistic. A super attractive male player falls for his semi-attractive quirky one night stand? Only happens movies and books. Secondly, I felt like the storyline just tried to jam pack every issue possible. From weight/body image, abortion, mommy issues - like ok we get it. I’m not even sure why I finished it to be honest, must have had nothing better going on.
