I read a lot of nonfiction graphic novels, and this series is one of the best I've read! Amazing illustrations and great storytelling. There was a good blend of John Lewis' personal experiences and the wider historical context.

Incredible to delve into the gritty challenges (and triumphs) of the Civil Rights movement with this living legend... Inspiring for social activism-- I should (most of us should) be doing more to fight injustice in our communities.

The flashbacks from the 1960s to 2009 were fewer in this book, but a jolt of emotion/energy each time -- a reminder that what the movement did had real and present impact, that even though America is still racist, the actions and commitment of a group of people can still effect real change. This isn't just a recount of something that happened once -- it's not a completed story that ends -- but ties into our country's ongoing history.

Phenomenal, no other words come close, and if there are better suited words to describe the awesomeness of the series, those words have not yet been invented.

Bloody Sunday is a sad time in American history and this volume explains the lead up to and aftermath of the day. I enjoyed this final volume so much and really learned a lot. I feel the same for all 3 volumes and really the only reason why I didn’t rate any of these 5 stars is because of my issue with the text of the graphic novels. The way the decided to depict text made it really hard to read at time which took away from the experience. Other than that, these were amazing.
