At first I didn't like the story but then it got better. The only thing I really had a problem with at some points was the writing.

Can't say anything towards the controversy around the problematic aspects of the book. However I can say that I didn't finish this book because it was overall really boring. I gave it 100 pages and after that I simply had no interest in continuing.

7/16/22 Re-read - I listened to the audiobook book and omg it's good! Still 5 stars. I love the duel narration.

Wonderful book and a great read! I am happy I have the second book right beside me to continue the story. I enjoyed the characters and the world creation, I enjoyed all of it!

Rating: 3,5 stars!

“I saw, for the first time, how thin the line was between fear and love, between reverence and adoration.”

I don't really know how to start this review. I've read a few of the comments people wrote about this book and well... I don't really agree with them (I talk about it in the last paragraph).

I kind of liked this book, although I have to admit that it didn't achieve the potential it could have had.
The beginning was very slow, nothing really happens ‘till page 200, more or less; but it has an amazing world building that I really loved. We get to know the main characters' past and the whole story has an aura of mystery really enticing.
It also addresses languages and different races/societies/planets (did I mention it gave me a lot of Star Wars vibes?) that made the reading more interesting.

I'm so excited to read the next and last book, The Fates Divide, cause I've heard it's SO MUCH better than this one, and hopefully, the story will achieve its whole potential.

NOTE: I'll start by clarifying that people have overreacted about the issue of chronic pain. I mean, Cyra has an ability (given by the current stream or wtever) to transfer pain with touch -the only con is that she suffers it too-. I can see the connection but not your reasoning to judge a whole book by it.
