How can you beat a classic like Sherlock?
This great collection of some of the best SH stories by Sir Conan Doyle really grasps the reader, swinging you into Sherlocks world and solving the cases right along side him.
A true staple for any literary nerd like myself!

For a person who is an avid consumer of the BBC Sherlock and who has, of course, run across this character countless times in popular culture but who has never actually read the books, it was very interesting to get acquainted with the original Sherlock Holmes. It was also entertaining to observe and recognise all of the events and details that had more or less been adapted into the television programme - actually, much more than I had anticipated was derived from the ACD stories.
The character of Holmes himself was interesting not so much because of his singular personality but because he was actually much more polite and amiable than I am accustomed to having him portrayed. Not much could be observed about Dr Watson himself except that he was a loyal friend with a curious mind.
The adventures in various locations of London also made me miss the city, as I was there just last month. In fact, this book itself was purchased from Heathrow. What was also very titillating for me was to read something that has been written in England over a century ago - the language was so formal and I witnessed many a word used quite differently than they are today. That is why I decided, with quite deliberated intent, to attempt to write this review as well in this amusing formal manner.
I shall definitely read the other Sherlock Holmes stories as well in due time.
