Easy to read in short spurts. Part advice, part instructional, has some exercises if you’re interested, included some art, add in a little bit of memoir and you’ve got a nice little book.

Jerry Saltz's "How to Be an Artist" is a lively and accessible guide that demystifies the creative process, making it approachable for artists at any stage of their journey. With a mix of wit, wisdom, and blunt advice, Saltz encourages readers to embrace their creativity, push past self-doubt, and keep making art no matter the obstacles.

There is so much food for thought that I put this book on my “buy” list.

This is a short quick guide to being a Artist. I will say that the vast majority of the book was focused on Visual Art, and How to be a Visual Artist which was fine but means that as a Written Artist (A Poet) I need to do a fair amount of modification or translation of the ideas into their equivalent for me.

Based on the title, I thought this book would be stupid, but it is actually practical and very inspiring. I listened to the audiobook which was a good experience but I’m considering picking up a physical version so I can try the exercises Saltz recommends.
